Relaxin’ in the river

Rachel and I have now been in Belize for one week and we have been so busy! We have reorganized the kitchen, the refrigerator (working on the freezer), Rachel sorted out the mouse colony, we have been moving birds, caring for new intakes, tearing down aviaries and putting them back together – it has been non-stop! So today, we decided to take a break! Nikki has a river running through the back of her property and it is a perfect place for a swim! The weather here is either: blazing hot, blazing hot and ridiculously humid, or just hot and ridiculously humid – so a dip in a cold river is a great way to spend an afternoon. We sat in the river for well over an hour watching the birds flit through the trees and listening to their calls. It was perfect. We saw warblers, and creepers, and water thrushes, and a grosbeak of some kind (haven’t gone through the bird book yet.) We saw two little kingfishers zip down the river which was pretty awesome! They had the same coloring as the belteds at home but were half the size 🙂 So an amazingly nice  and peaceful day – back to work tomorrow!

This guy has nothing to do with today's post other than being awesome! Gray iguanas are all over the property!

Feeding the parrots in the morning consists of crouching under perches while trying to avoid the fire ants! Ouch!

The perfect place to spend the afternoon - the water is crystal clear and the perfect temperature.

Just to the left of this picture is a large water wheel that pumps water to the buildings on the property - this structure creates a current here - the water is deeper and faster moving past the rocks.

If you look closely you just might spot a hooded warbler!

Looks amazing! My iguana CC is one of those grey iguana. Total a-hole. Stay away from them. But enough about me 😛 Glad you are enjoying a little down time.
